Tomato Upma Recipe:

Tomato upma is another type of upma recipe.This recipe is spicier than the simple upma.Tomato upma is a tangy upma recipe with full on flavors from tomatoes and spices.

Serves:3 Serving

Ingredients for Tomato Upma:

1 cup fine rava
1 finely chopped onion
1 chopped green chili
1 teaspoon chana dal
1 teaspoon urad dal
1/2-inch finely chopped ginger
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1 dressed red chili
1 chopped onion
2.5 cup water
1 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
8-9 curry leaves
10-12 cashew
1-2 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
2 tablespoons oil
salt as required

Step  by Step method of Upma recipe:

1. Prepare all ingredients for the upma.

2. First heat pan or kadhai then add 1 cup rava.

3. Being to rost rava.Stir often while roasting the rava.

4. The rava or sooji grain should become fragrant and start to look dry,separate and crispY.Don't brown the rava.

5. Once the rava becomes fragrant and starts to look dry and crisp,then switch off the flame and remove the roasted rava in a plate and keep aside.

6. After that add 2 tbsp oil or ghee in a pan and heat it.

7. Now add 1 tbsp mustard seeds and let them crackle.

8. After that add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds along with 1 tsp chana dal(husked and split Bengal gram) , 1 tsp urad dal(husked and split black gram) and 1 dressed red chili.

9. fry until chana dal and urad dal begin to brown a bit.

10. Now add finely chopped onions.

11. Saute the onions until it becomes brown and soft.

12. After that add the chopped green chili,chopped ginger and curry leaves.

13. Stir and saute for a minute.

14. After that add chopped tomatoes to the mixture.

15. Saute and stir well until the tomatoes becomes soft.

16. Now add 1 tsp turmeric powder,1 tsp red chili powder and salt.

17. Stir well until the raw smell of spices is goes away.

18. Then add 2.5 cup water to the mixture.

19. Add salt as required.

20. Add sugar as required.

21. Stir well the mixture on a medium flame,heat the water and let it come to boiling.

22. When the water comes to a rolling boil,lower the flame and add the rava with a spoon,in 4-5 batches.

23. Once you add rava stir immediately.

24. Then add the next batch of rava and stir again.

25. This way keep on adding and stirring the rava up to the last batch.

26. Now cover the oven and allow the rava upma to steam for 2 minutes on the low flame.

27. Now switch off the flame and garnish with chopped  coriander leaves.

28. Stir well the up.Serve with a lemon slice or chutney.
